Congenital heart problems may be diagnosed in utero during routine pregnancy check-up. The disorder may be discovered while the gynaecologist listens to the foetal heartbeat, or during a routine pregnancy ultrasound examination. In case a heart defect is suspected, a foetal echocardiogram will be performed to check the heart structure and functions.
